Bredan Park is now back on bin route

BREDAN Park residents will no longer have to drag their bins to the entrance of the estate after the council re-instated bin collections.

The council had to suspend bin the collection in the Magheralin development following safety concerns over the state of the road.

Councillor John O'Dowd had worked with the Roads Service to bring the road up to a reasonable standard.

Mr O’Dowd said: "It was brought to my attention earlier that bin collections were not being carried out because of the condition of uncompleted roads.

"At that time I had obtained a commitment from Roads Services that it would pursue the matter with developers to ensure that they fulfilled their responsibility.

"While Bredan Park road remains incomplete it has been brought up to a reasonable standard.

"The council has told me it inspected the road and is happy to restart the collections."

The Sinn Fein man said he is pursuing the issue of the roads at the nearby Broomhill development and has received assurances that the roads will also be brought up to standard in the near future.

He concluded: "Developers have a responsibility to the home owners within their developments and Roads Service has a duty to ensure that those responsibilities are met.

"I remain hopeful that a successful conclusion can be brought to this issue and if not, I will be calling on Roads Service to complete the work and recoup the costs from the developer.”

A council spokeswoman said: "Following several inspections of the roads at Bredan Park, Craigavon Borough Council has been proactive and will be starting the kerbside collection of bins within the next few weeks.

"Residents are currently taking their bins to a joint collection point. Although the road has not been formally adopted, council has made the decision that the roads are in good enough condition for the bin lorries to now begin door-to-door collection."
