The marathon course took runners through all five city boroughs - Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Manhattan, finishing up in the iconic Central Park.

More than 50,000 runners took part in the annual event and along the route they were cheered on by an estimated two million spectators.

There were also live bands and DJs playing along the way, ensuring an electric atmosphere for athletes and spectators alike.

Brendan, who completed the gruelling 26-mile course in a time of 4 hours 15 minutes, has raised more than £3,000 for the local cancer charity.

Action Cancer’s events assistant, Stacey Graham described the trip as “a once in a lifetime experience” for Brendan and his fellow participants.

“This was an amazing experience for the group and Action Cancer was delighted to have their support. The group worked really hard on their training and their fundraising and we would like to thank them for their efforts,” she said.

“In total Brendan has raised more than £3,275 in sponsorship. This will go towards Action Cancer’s lifesaving services including: early detection breast screening services, the Big Bus mobile unit, complementary and counselling services and health promotion services.”
