Bresland encouraged by PSNI response

DUP MLA for West Tyrone, Allan Bresland, has said he is encouraged by the PSNI's response to his Assembly question about recent terrorist attacks in the Strabane area.

He has, however, urged them to keep tightening the screw on those responsible for these dastardly deeds and he has called upon all sections of the community to co-operate fully with them.

Mr Bresland said, "Following the unacceptably high levels of Republican terrorist activity in and around Strabane, I asked the Minister of Justice for an update on police investigations into the various incidents. Mr Ford referred the matter to the PSNI who have now responded to say that the recent terrorist attacks are all currently under investigation by detectives from CID in G District with assistance from HQ as appropriate.

"They also informed me that in addition to the search operations conducted as part of the immediate follow up to the incidents, a further five planned searches have so far been conducted. I was encouraged that these searches have yielded what the police describe as a "significant number" of physical evidential seizures and trace samples. Detectives involved have made three arrests.

"I urge the PSNI to keep tightening the screw on this small number of evil people who have nothing positive to offer and whose sole aim is to create mayhem, conflict and division. But if we are to be rid of this scourge, the police need the help of the whole community. I would therefore appeal to anyone who knows anything or has any suspicions of any sort, to get in touch the police. Any evidence, no matter how insignificant it might seem, could be crucial. We must all stand together and, in doing so, we can defeat those who would take us back to the dark days of the past".
