Bresland welcomes campaign

THE DUP MLA for West Tyrone, Allan Bresland, has welcomed the Social Security Agency's decision to conduct an awareness campaign between now and next February for those who have become eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment.

Mr Bresland said: "I am glad that the Social Security Agency is taking this step to make sure that everyone is aware of this important winter payment. Now that autumn is approaching, I would encourage anyone born on or before 5 July 1950 who feels that they qualify for the payment for the first time to lodge a claim as soon as possible.

"If you have never claimed before, you should phone 08459 151515 – lines open 8.30am-4.30pm Monday to Friday. Claims must be received by 30 March 2011, but don't delay as claims lodged before 24 September are likely to be paid before Christmas.

"Automatic payments will be made in November and December to those who got the payment last year or who were born on or before 5 July 1950 and receive the State Pension or another social security benefit (excluding Housing Benefit or Child Benefit) during 20 -26 September 2010.

"The amount available will be 250 for households up to 79 years and 400 for households aged 80 or over".
