Brethren off to Sham Fight and Twelfth

THE Brethren of No 2 District LOL will chalk up a first on Friday, when they head to the Sham Fight at Scarva.

According to City of Londonderry Grand Orange Lodge press officer, Victor Wray, it is the first time that the preceptories in the city will have attended en masse in the company of a band, The Churchill Flute Band.

“IT is the first time that the City has taken a bus with the other preceptories in the No.2 District lodge, and we hope that we will have a very enjoyable day. It will be just after the Twelfth and we will have to leave early, at 7.15am to get to Scarva on time for the start of the parade at 11.15am, but I know from others who have attended the ‘Sham Fight’ that it is a fantastic spectacle and the Brethren are in for a very enjoyable day out,” Mr Wray said.

Turning his attention to the Twelfth of July celebrations, Mr Wray said Brethren were asked to turn up at the Fountain for 8am, and that the parade would be moving off at 8.30am.

“The parade will be to the Memorial Hall through the town after which Brethren will board buses on May Street to depart for the celebrations. We in the City Grand Lodge discourage any drinking or the presence of blue bags at the outward or return parades in the city, and the PSNI will be working in partnership with our stewards to ensure that we have a peaceful and enjoyable day.

“We hope it turns out to be a wonderful family day out for all with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment for all. We wish all the Lodges a very happy Twelfth,” said the City Grand Lodge press officer.
