Brian Bloomfield expected to be Mayor

On Tuesday evening (June 14) Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council will hold its Annual General Meeting, at which the members will elect a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor.

The new Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council is expected to be Ulster Unionist Brian Bloomfield and the new Deputy Mayor is expected to be Alliance Party Councillor, Alderman Stephen Martin.

Mr Bloomfield, who is a former Principal of Wallace High School, will take over the top post from outgoing DUP mayor Thomas Beckett and solicitor Stephen Martin will replace outgoing Deputy Mayor Councillor Alexander Redpath.

There is also the strong possibility that during the AGM some of the top roles in the Council Committees will change.

Councillor Brian Bloomfield MBE, who represents Lisburn North, currently serves on the Council’s Development, Environmental Services and Leisure and Community Development Committees.

He was first elected to the Council in 2011 and has previously served as Chairman of the Lisburn Police and Community Safety Partnership.

Alderman Stephen Martin, who is expected to be elevated to Deputy Mayor, is a practising solicitor and was also first elected to the Council in 2011.

He is the Alliance Group Leader on the Council and had was the Deputy Presiding Councillor in the transitional council.

Mr Martin is known to have a keen interest in economic development and corporate governance.

The Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council AGM will be held in Lisburn’s Civic Centre on Tuesday June 14 at 6pm.
