Bridge Engineering work at Ballymoney Train Station

This essential works is part of the ongoing construction of the new modern accessible pedestrian footbridge over the railway line providing better access for the local community between the north and south of the town.

Translink Project Manager, Anthony Stove explained, “Work has been progressing well on this important project. For health and safety reasons some of the work now needs to be carried out at night as we plan to use on-track machinery, generators and large cranes to lift bridge sections over the railway. This will mean lighting on site and while we do not envisage any excessive noise; we will be working closely with our contractor, McLaughlin and Harvey, to keep it to a minimum. 

“We can assure local residents that work will be completed as quickly as possible and would ask for patience from the local community and apologize for any inconvenience caused.” He concluded.

This project is a partnership between Department for Regional Development, Ballymoney Borough Council, Sustrans and Translink.

The new footbridge will have ramped access providing disabled access to the station platforms and provides an alternative means for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the railway line as they travel between Riverside Park and the town along the new footpath and cycle path.
