Bridge of Hope concert

THE UUP is holding a gospel concert in Bushmills Orange Hall to raise funds for the Bridge of Hope Appeal in Kenya.

Rev Dorrans, the retired minister of Cromore and Ballycastle Presbyterian Churches, plans to fly to Kenya to help build a bridge across the River Galana, the seconded largest river in Kenya.

The aim of the bridge is to join isolated communities north of the river to the neighbouring village Shakahola and therefore helping improve transport access.

One of the organisers, Tom McKeown explained: “There are many very isolated villages north of the river and for the people to get to Shakahola it would be 200 to 300 mile drive around the River Galana. However the bridge would make a shortcut and enable the villagers to improve their transport access which would therefore have a knock on effect making life a lot easier.”

The concert will take place this Thursday (October 21) from 7.30pm. Admission is 5.

The local councillor added: “Any money raised during the Bridge of Hope Concert will go straight towards the bridge as the Presbyterian Church of Ireland has already paid for Rev Dorrans flights to Kenya.

“So we are calling on everyone’s support to help make a difference to these isolated villagers - together we can bring hope and save the lives of many.”
