Bridge winsmajor award

THE Londonderry Peace Bridge was highly commended at the 25th Annual British Construction Industry Awards in London last week.

The bridge, which has won a string of prestigious engineering and design awards was recognised for its outstanding contribution to the regeneration of Londonderry.

Aideen McGinley, ILEX’s Chief Executive, said: “This commendation is further recognition of the impact which the Peace Bridge has had on the regeneration of the city.

“It underlines both the social and physical implications which this unique structure has had on the citizens of Derry~Londonderry.

“As well as having evoked a great sense of city pride, the bridge, through its link to Ebrington Square and the city’s walls is also a tourism magnet and has drawn in thousands of visitors since its launch last year boosting the local economy. I would like to pay tribute to all those involved in making it such a great success.”

Paul Scott Project Director at Graham Construction said: “We are delighted to have been represented at this prestigious event and to have been highly commended on the Peace Bridge Project which has changed the cityscape of Derry~Londonderry forever.”
