Bright new library opens to public in Draperstown

Libraries NI has secured a lease on these new premises and in partnership with Workspace Ltd, has created a new purpose built facility aimed at providing the residents of the Draperstown area with a modern, bright and comfortable library offering a range of services.

The new library is almost twice the size of the previous library and this additional space boasts a study area, space to display local history material and of course lots of books.

The library has been established in a good town centre location and contains well-stocked bookshelves.

Members can also enjoy free Internet access on the library’s six public computers and use its Information Services.

A dedicated children’s area has been created which will be able to accommodate class visits from local schools and activities such as Rhythm and Rhyme (stories, songs and rhymes) aimed at babies and pre-school children.

The project breathes new life into what had been an unused building and is designed to allow easy access to all.

Accessible public toilet facilities are available and the open and airy interior gives customers the opportunity to browse, study, meet friends or find a quiet corner to read the local newspaper.

“Libraries NI and Workspace Ltd are delighted that the people of Draperstown will now be able to enjoy a brighter, more accessible library, offering a wider range of books for all ages, DVDs and computers, in a comfortable setting and we would like to thank our customers for their patience while this work was ongoing.

“We are delighted that this partnership working and the drive and commitment shown by Workspace has resulted in the opening of this library facility. We hope many people will visit to see what services are available and to join the library.”

To become a library member, simply bring along a means of identification (which includes a home address) and then you can enjoy many free membership benefits.

Draperstown Library’s opening hours are Tuesday from 1.30pm - 8pm, Friday 10am - 1pm and 2pm - 5pm and Saturday from 10am - 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm.
