'Brilliant news' – Mayor

"THIS is brilliant news for Lurgan Park," was how Lurgan resident Mayor of Craigavon Alderman Stephen Moutray greeted the result, "particularly as Lurgan is celebrating its 400th birthday this year."

He went on: "Thousands of people visit and enjoy the Park - but with its 200 acres there’s loads of room for more people to come and see what we think is the premiere Park in NI."

Chairman of Leisure Services Committee Councillor Ronnie Harkness agreed: “Lurgan Park is quite rightly the envy of many towns. This award proves it – to be ranked 5th overall within the UK is absolutely fantastic.

"We must also pay tribute to the hard work of our Council staff - without their vision and planning Lurgan Park would not be the Park it is today."

Lurgan Park is over 200 acres in size including a 59 acre lake with boating, fishing, a top of the range play park, rugby and football pitches, tennis courts, bowling pavilion, cricket pitch and of course the famous Coalbrookedale Fountain - only one of four remaining in the world. Lurgan Park is the largest urban Park in Northern Ireland.
