Bring old school to life

CRAIGAVON Borough Council’s Museum Services are revamping the ever popular Barn Museum’s gallery into a historic school room and are appealing to local residents for donations or loans of old school photographs, uniforms and associated memorabilia from local schools between the 1900’s -1970’s.

The gallery will offer visitors an interactive and interesting insight into what school life was like throughout the years and will bring childhood school experiences to life through various photos, artifacts and displays.

The school room will be transported back in time and will be furnished with old school desks, blackboards and items relevant to schooling from the turn of the last Century onwards.

David Weir, Museum Assistant, commented: “The old school room will be open from April 9 and will be a fascinating world of interesting school related artifacts, bringing visitors back in time to reminiscence about their former school years.

“We hope to gather as many artifacts and photos as possible and I would appeal to anyone who would like to showcase, loan or donate their old school memorabilia to contact Craigavon Museum Services.”
