Britain in Bloom ‘Gold’ for Ahoghill

The other Mid and East Antrim Borough entrant, Glenarm was recognised with a Silver Gilt during the Royal Horticultural Society’s finals that took place this evening in Sunderland.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Mayor, Councillor Billy Ashe said: “I would like to congratulate Ahoghill and Glenarm for their success in Britain in Bloom. This is a wonderful achievement that reflects very well on our beautiful Borough.”

This follows the recent success of both villages at the international Communities in Bloom competition, in Canada, and means they have each now brought home another two major awards. Glenarm was entered in the Village and Ahoghill in the Small Town categories of the Royal Horticultural Society’s awards.

Earlier this year, the Borough also won a total of five awards in the 2015 Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition.

The village of Ahoghill was the winner of the Ulster in Bloom’s Small Town Award while Whitehead Train Station was announced as the 2015 winner of the Community Rail Halt Award. Whitehead was placed second in the Small Town category, Carrickfergus was second in the Large Town category and Larne was second in the Town category.
