Club Secretary, Maggie Dimsdale Bobby told The Times that the decision was made following an Extraordinary General Meeting last Monday night.

Maggie said it was with ‘deep regret’ that the members voted to close the club.

Twenty-six members voted in favour of the closure, whilst seven voted against, five other members abstained.

The Coleraine Royal British Legion Branch will still exist as a charity.

Maggie went on: “It would have been nice to see more people supporting the Club, but unfortunately that’s the world we live in today.

People just don’t have the funds to go out every weekend anymore.

“Members of the public have been saddened to hear of the closure of the Club, and I honestly believe that every town should have a Legion.

“Ex service men rely on the welfare side of the Legion, and that’s why it is so important that the branch side remains.

“At this point I think it is very important that we thank everyone who has supported the Coleraine Legion down through the years.

“There were many good nights in the Club, many friendships have been made, and I suppose it will live on in our memories.”
