British Lung Foundation welcomes Life Cycle

Local cyclists set off from Altnagelvin Hospital at 9am. They are expected to arrive at Coleraine town hall around 2pm where they will be welcomed with well-earned refreshments.

British Lung Foundation Development Officer, Nessie Blair, said: “We’re delighted to welcome the ‘Life Cycle’ event. What a fantastic way to raise the profile of organ donation.

“Donating an organ really is giving the gift of life. It’s a life changing gesture for not only those who need the organ, but for their friends and families too.

“I hope everyone who sees the cyclists in this event will give serious consideration to their cause.”

Heart and double lung transplantee, Bernadette Reid, said: “If it wasn’t for organ donation, I wouldn’t be here. It’s such an important service. I feel so lucky and grateful to have received the treatment I did.

“Life Cycle is a brilliant idea. I really hope it puts organ donation on the forefront of people’s mind as it’s something everyone should consider.”

Head of the British Lung Foundation Scotland & Northern Ireland, Dr James Cant, said: “We’re so impressed by the ‘Life Cycle’ event. What a great way to raise awareness of organ donation.

Organ donation isn’t always something people want to think about, but by offering to donate an organ you’re agreeing to save someone’s life.
