'˜Broad range' of politicians for Unite's hustings event at Braid

Unite Regional Secretary, Jimmy Kelly, says there will be a '˜broad range of political representation' at his union's hustings event which is set for this evening in Ballymena.

He said: “We have confirmations from the DUP, Sinn Fein, UUP, SDLP, TUV, Alliance and Labour Representation Committee for what promises to be a very lively hustings event in Ballymena.

“The chair will be UTV’s Jamie Delargy, who will ensure that the discussion remains focussed on the economy, jobs, public services and other local issues of concern.

“The list of participants shows the political parties want to answer directly the public’s questions on their response to the manufacturing crisis and other issues of local concern.

“This event has been organised by Unite as the logical next-step in our campaign for action on the crisis in manufacturing. It comes on the back of our hugely successful Rally For A Future march in the Ballymena in February and has been led by our representatives and shop-stewards in local workplaces; this event is a real demonstration of grassroots activism.

“I encourage the wider public in the area to come along and seize this opportunity to get answers to the questions that matter most. The discussion will commence tonight at 7.30pm in the Braid (townhall) in Ballymena”, Mr Kelly concluded.
