Broadcaster and footballer at special meetings

Rev Gareth Burke, who regularly takes the ‘Thought for the Day’ slot on Radio Ulster, is to be the special speaker at week of Gospel Services in Dervock Reformed Presbyterian Church (Castlecat Road), writes Caroline Hawthorne.

The services will begin (DV) on the evening of the 16th October and continue to the 23rd October, (excluding the Saturday). On the Lord’s Day evenings the meeting will commence at 7.30 and on weeknights at 8.00pm.

Mr Burke is the minister of Stranmillis Evangelic Presbyterian Church in Belfast. He is a gifted communicator, as those who have heard his broadcasts will testify. He has a way of explaining the message of God’s Word in a simple, interesting and winsome manner. Earlier in the year he spent a time in Africa helping to train pastors for the work of ministry.

On the Friday evening (which is designed for youth but intended for all) Howard Beverland, who plays in defence for Coleraine Football Club will speak of his Christian faith.

He will share how his relationship with Jesus Christ affects his approach to football and his conduct on and off the field of play. Recently his manager, Oran Kearney, said of Howard “You should build a Club around good people and good footballers. Howard falls into both camps. He is a good professional with a good attitude and we are delighted to have him for at least two more years.”

Everyone is invited to come and will be made most welcome. Light refreshments will be served each evening.
