Broke bottle in shop and squared up to another man

A drunken man broke a bottle inside a shop and then squared up to a man, Banbridge Magistrates Court heard last Thursday.

Jonathan Irszak (34), Blackskull Road, Banbridge, was fined £150 for assault on a male on December 27.

He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

For disorderly behaviour on the same occasion at Scarva Street, Banbridge, he was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.

The court heard that police received a report from staff at a Spar shop that an intoxicated male was causing a disturbance.

Irszak was refusing to leave the forecourt.

He was told to move on but then called back at the same shop.

He smashed a bottle inside the shop.

A man asked him to leave and the defendant squared up to him asking him what he was going to do about it.

He was behaving in an aggressive manner.

A solicitor for the defendant said he has struggled with drink and was on a drinking binge over the Christmas period.

He added that Irszak has since apologised to the shop owners.

He had little recollection of the incident and was seeking help by attending AA.
