Brooke Park due to close next week

The public are reminded that the walkway through Brooke Park will close to the public for approximately one week from Monday, August 24, to allow for contractors to carry out drainage works to the Park at Infirmary Road.

Apologising for any inconvenience caused, a spokesperson for Derry City and Strabane District Council who is overseeing the works, explained that the drainage works are an important part of the £5.6m regeneration plan that will transform the historic public park.

The spokesperson added that work on the project is progressing well with the completed project expected to be ready by summer 2016.

The regeneration project involves the restoration of the Gatelodge, a new pavilion and play garden, the re-instatement of the ornamental oval pond, creation of a new Horticulture Training Centre and growing area and a new Contact Sports Centre. It also includes provision for a new MUGA, improvements to the Bowling Club facilities, car parking, access, enhanced wildlife habitat and the placement of new furniture including public seating.

Anyone with any queries about the temporary closure or the Brooke Park regeneration project should contact the Council on 028 71 253253.
