Hernan Farias, a native of Santiago who has been living in the village for the past six years, was approached by the Christian missionary organisation Asia Link earlier this year to take part in a trip to Nepal.

In the months since, the country has been devastated by earthquakes which have left hundreds dead and thousands homeless.

Given the extent of the devastation, Hernan, a commercial photographer by trade, and representatives of Asia Link in Northern Ireland decided that they should take some aid out with them and the result is a special worship service in Ballymena Baptist Church of which Hernan is a member.

Being held on June 27 at 7.30pm to raise funds for the trip and urgent aid for Nepal, the evening service is open to all.

There will be no admission fee but those who wish to give can do so using the donation boxes which will be available in the church hall. Tea and coffee will be provided after the service of which music and praise will be a feature.

Hernan’s efforts have received the support of local MLA Paul Frew who says: “I have known Hernan for a long time now and it is very clear that his faith is very important to him. He has picked up this calling and is prepared to sacrifice much in order to help those who are much less fortunate. I wish him all the very best in his endeavours.”
