Brown bin collections are now underway

With the fortnightly collections of the recently delivered brown bins starting on Monday, November 17, Craigavon Borough Council is advising residents to look out for their information leaflet and check what day their bin will be collected.
Vice-Chair of Environmental Services Committee, Alderman Gladys McCullough and Director of Environmental Services, Lorraine Crawford are reminding residents that the collection of the recently issued brown bins starts week commencing Monday 17th November. Look out for your information leaflet arriving in the post - inside will be a calendar indicating clearly what days your bins will be emptied and some people will find that their brown bin collection day may have changed.Vice-Chair of Environmental Services Committee, Alderman Gladys McCullough and Director of Environmental Services, Lorraine Crawford are reminding residents that the collection of the recently issued brown bins starts week commencing Monday 17th November. Information leaflets including a collection calendar have been posted to households throughout the Borough to let them know what day their brown bin will be collected on, for the majority of residents this will be on the same day as their green bin. Blue and green bin collections remain the same.

Council is aiming towards a dedicated ‘recycling day’ when all brown bins will be emptied on the same day as the green bin.

“Households who have a brown bin should receive an information leaflet. Inside will be a calendar indicating clearly what days your bins will be emptied and some people will find that their brown collection day may have changed.

“The calendar will also include holiday arrangements – so it is important that you read the information and keep it safe,” commented Vice-Chair of Environmental Services Committee, Alderman Gladys McCullough.

The Council takes its recycling responsibilities very seriously and is very successful in working with local residents.

By collecting both food and vegetation waste in the brown bin and by treating, recycling and turning this type of waste into compost, Council reduces the amount of material it sends to landfill which ultimately means savings for the ratepayers.

Brown bins come with internal kitchen caddies – a small container for the kitchen, acting as a reminder and making it easier for people to recycle their kitchen waste. Biodegradable bags help the caddies stay clean – again making it simpler for the householder.
