Brown bin saga rumbles on

Having no means by which to dispose of their garden waste has been a point of consternation with residents.

Tony McEwan is one of those leading the charge to have the estate put on the brown bin collection rota.

He told the ‘MAIL’ he’s recently learned that if residents ask for brown bins as a collective there’s a better chance they’ll get them.

He said: “I’ve been told we need 40% of residents to ask for a brown bin in order to be included on the brown bin rota. I’ve been asking for a brown bin for years and years but this is the first time I’ve heard that a certain number of residents need to ask for one.”

He continued: “I have to take my garden waste to the dump, but that’s not always possible so some of it goes in the main bin. It’s not helping them with their recycling targets.”

A council spokesperson said the 40% quota is not something in their criteria and were unsure where Mr McEwan had picked this up from.

They added: “We will be reviewing all areas within the borough that currently have brown caddies instead of brown bins over the next few weeks. This includes the Drumbeg area. Residents can contact Carn Depot on 3833 9031 with any questions.”
