Brown bin saga rumbles on and on

Eighteen months have passed since every resident in the borough was promised a brown bin, yet the saga rumbles on.

Council heard on Monday night there was a further hold up in the brown bin optimisation.

DUP Councillor Mark Baxter said: “I get phonecalls day in, day out about people not having brown bins when other people have them who don’t have gardens.”

DUP Alderman Carla Lockhart said: “Council took a decision that brown bins would be rolled out throughout the borough. There’s an equality issue here.”

The SDLP’s Joe Nelson said: “If a project like this was in the private sector it would have been done and dusted in six weeks, not 18 months.”
