Bruce Heritage Trail marker for Connor

The village of Connor’s connection with Edward Bruce is to be set in stone, a Council committee has decided.

Connor is to be one of 11 sites marked out on a heritage trail commemorating the 700th anniversary of Edward Bruce’s arrival in Ireland in 1315 which is being developed by the Ulster-Scots Agency.

The Agency’s fully funded project includes the siting of granite boulders with interpretative panels at 11 significant sites throughout the country and the site proposed in Connor, which is in the ownership of Council, has been agreed with Kells & Connor Community Association.

When the request to locate both a boulder and panel at the site came before members of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council’s latest Operational Committee meeting, last week, members agreed it on the proposal of Cllr Reuben Glover, seconded by Cllr Mark McKinty.

Councillors were told that The Battle at Connor played a vital role in Bruce’s campaign and is noteworthy in both local and Ireland-wide history.

They were also informed that all of the boulder and panel ‘markers’ will be in place by the end of the month.
