Thanks to the Hedge Laying Association Ireland, visitors to the centre have seen the native hedge at the entrance to the site become a decorative feature.

Hedge laying is a traditional management technique involving cutting and arranging trees to form a living barrier which is then staked into place in order to stabilise the hedge whilst restoring neglected native hedgerow.

A spokesperson for Newtownabbey Borough Council said: “After having been restored, the native hedgerow now not only lends beauty and character to the site at Bruslee, but also enhances the local biodiversity through providing a haven for wildlife in the area.”
