Sinn Féin confirmed the event was cancelled out of respect for the victims of the Brussels terror attacks on Tuesday morning, March 22.

“All events have been cancelled and flights back to Ireland have been arranged for the visitors,” a spokesperson confirmed. “Martina was travelling via London and Paris with a group of 20 from the north, but again they have made alternative arrangements to get home.”

Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness expressed shock and condemnation at the attacks.

“This morning’s attacks on people at airport and metro stations in Brussels are deplorable and I condemn them unreservedly.

“My thoughts, as with everyone in Ireland at this time, will be with those killed or injured.

“I have been in contact with Sinn Féin representatives and staff travelling to and in Brussels this morning to express my concern and I now want to extend solidarity and support to the people of Brussels at this awful time.”
