Bryson Recycling launches £1 a tonne appeal with NI Childrens Hospice

Bryson Recycling operates a weekly collection service to over 170,000 homes across NI across six council areas including Ballymena so it’s a great way to get people thinking about becoming more green and helping out those in need over the festive period.

The successful ‘£1 a Tonne’ campaign, now in its seventh year, is an innovative way to urge homeowners to recycle as much as possible and in return support a worthwhile local cause.

For every tonne of material recycled through its kerbside box collection from December to March, £1 will be donated to the Children’s Hospice.

So, as many people plan extra festivities at this time of year, the race is on to recycle and make a real difference for some families in need.

Launching the campaign, Claire McCallum, Bryson Recycling, said:“During the Christmas period, it’s important to remember those who need care and support all year round. The Children’s Hospice offers an invaluable service in Northern Ireland. The team work around the clock to provide 24 hour support and care to children who are battling conditions such as cancer, heart disease, muscular dystrophy and degenerative conditions for which there is no known cure.

“We appreciate that in the current climate not everyone can afford to provide financial support but we have devised our ‘£1 a Tonne’ campaign to ensure that people don’t have to dig deep to make a huge difference.”

Ellen Hillen, Corporate and Trust Fundraiser from the Northern Ireland Hospice welcomed the initiative: “We are delighted to be working with Bryson Recycling. Every year we provide specialist nursing care for 250 life limited children, young people and their families throughout Northern Ireland. Care is provided in their own home or in our children’s hospices in Newtownabbey and Killadeas, Fermanagh. There are 600 life-limited children in Northern Ireland that urgently require the care that only the hospice can provide.

Just £30 can give these special children an hour of hospice care. We are asking everyone with a kerbside box to make an extra big effort in the coming months and do their bit for recycling. Every pound raised will go a long way to support local children and young people, and their families.”
