Building Communities Fair for Stoneyford

A BUILDING Communities Fair will be held on Tuesday 24th May in St John’s Church Hall, Stoneyford to help build peace and bring relevant organisations together who may be of support to rural communities.

The event, which runs from 4.30pm to 8.30pm is part of the Rural Community Network’s Rural Enabler Programme’s Respect Week which takes place from May 23 to 29.

The Rural Enabler is aimed at assisting rural communities to develop ways to deal with the things that still divide them.

The Rev Farr from St John’s Parish in Stoneyford believes it will be a great event for all.

“This is an opportunity for the community in Stoneyford, and for other communities in the Lisburn Council area, to find out what organisations are available for support.”

“It is good to see such positivity amongst these organisations to reach out to smaller rural communities. The fact that the event will be held in Stoneyford also provides a good opportunity for people from outside the area to see what a friendly and welcoming village Stoneyford is.”

Jude Cumiskey, Rural Enabler for County Down said; “This event is about bringing the relevant organisations together in one place that can perhaps be of support to communities throughout the Lisburn City Council area.

“Communities continue to need support for many reasons.

“They may be interested in developing their community facilities and infrastructure, wishing to build the capacity of community activists or they simply want to address anti social behaviour in the area.”

Orla Black, Rural Enabler for County Antrim said: “Respect Week is about recognising that equity, diversity and interdependence are the building blocks to a prosperous and peaceful society.

“We hope to use this event as an opportunity to embrace our multicultural community through music and food, with a buffet incorporating both traditional European and Lithuanian fayre.

“It is important that people are able to enjoy and embrace their culture and diversity in a positive manner. Communities should be given the opportunity to thrive and make use of the support that is out there.”
