‘Building Confidence’ report launch

A NEW report aimed at encouraging Protestant involvement in civic life in Londonderry, Strabane, Omagh and Donegal will be launched in the Lincoln Courts Community Centre in the Waterside this evening, Wednesday, July 6.

‘Building Confidence: Ways Forward to support Protestant participation in the North West’ is based on a comprehensive survey of the Protestant community in Londonderry, Strabane, Omagh and Donegal.

Commissioned late last year by Derry City Council it involved pollsters Ipsos Mori door-stepping 661 people from Londonderry, Strabane and Omagh and carrying out a further 149 interviews in Donegal between February and May this year on behalf of consultants Deloitte who authored the document.

The new research is a remarkably positive follow-up to ‘Population Change and Social Inclusion Study Londonderry (2005)’ which made for dismal reading and revealed a deep sense of Protestant alienation across the North West.

Tonight’s event organised by Gateways to Protestant Participation (GPP) will take place at 7pm at the Lincoln Court venue and will allow local people come along to find out more about the research.

The launch will commence at 7pm and a light supper will be provided.
