Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service [NIFRS] were called to farmland in the Knockavaddy Road area after reports of an animal in distress last Thursday [July 2].

A joint effort between fire appliances from Pomeroy, Cookstown, Dungannon and Omagh saved the animal’s life.

A NIFRS spokesperson said: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service received a call at 5:11pm to a report of an animal in distress at the Knockavaddy Road area of Pomeroy on Thursday 2nd July.

“Fire appliances from Pomeroy, Omagh, Dungannon and Cookstown Fire Stations were deployed to the scene of a large bullock trapped in a slurry pit in the area.

“The animal was removed from the pit by the NIFRS Animal Rescue Team using straps and a digger. A gas monitor was used to take a reading of the pit throughout the incident,” they added.

“The incident finished at 7:06pm.”
