Burglaries at 15-year low

Incidents of burglary in the D District are currently at the lowest rate in 15 years, police have said.

The figures for August are the lowest since 1998 with a 13 percent reduction in the number of reported break-ins.

Just 76 burglaries were reported across Carrickfergus, Antrim, Newtownabbey and Lisburn throughout August 2013, compared to 143 in August 2012.

Area Commander Chief Inspector Stephen Reid said: “Despite significant extra demands placed on police, recently local officers have demonstrated their continuing commitment to concentrating on crimes that matter to people, like burglary.

“We have been engaged in targeted patrolling and close monitoring of repeat offenders and these along with successful crime prevention campaigns and initiatives with the local Policing and Community Safety Partnership have all come together to produce these results.”
