Burglars busy

A NUMBER of homes were ransacked in the space of an hour by burglars over the weekend.

The thieves entered houses in the Parkmore, Avenue Road and Russell Drive areas between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on Saturday.

Rooms were ransacked and in some cases cash was stolen. Police said there was nothing to suggest a link between the incidents.

Anne Hanlon, chair of the Mourneview and Grey Estates Residents' Association said people needed to be vigilant.

"We all need to ensure our homes are properly secured and valuables safely locked away.

"People should contact the Craigavon Community Safety Partnership (CCSP) for help and advice on securing their homes."

Parkmore Residents' Association secretary, Sharon Mills said the organisation had been working to stamp out crime in the area.

She said: "We have been working with the PSNI and hope to have a crime advice clinic in the community house.

"We are also on the way to becoming a neighbourhood watch area and have asked the CCSP for funding for stronger locks and chains."

These raids follow on from a series of similar incidents in the run up to Christmas.

Homes across the borough were targeted as their owners were out - some were attending church services.

The police have appealed for information, they can be contacted on 0845 600 8000, alternatively information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555111.
