Burglars steal from family as they sleep

POLICE are investigating a creeper-style burglary at a property in the Carnreagh Bend area of Rathcoole in the early hours of Tuesday morning (April 23).

Sometime between 1.30am and 8am thieves entered a house in the street belonging to a young family, who were sleeping upstairs at the time of the incident. The burglars stole TVs, computers and other electrical goods. They also made off with the family’s Daihatsu YRV car.

Local community worker Phil Hamilton, who knows the victims of the burglary, appealed to all residents to make sure their doors and windows are locked at nights and to make sure they keep car keys and other valuables out of sight in order to deter thieves.

Mr Hamilton said that many people in the estate, particularly those living alone, are concerned about recent burglaries in the area.

“I will be getting in contact with the police to ask for a more visible police presence on the streets in order to give people some reassurance,” the PUP man said. “I would also appeal to anyone who sees any suspicious activity around the estate to report it to the police immediately.”

Investigating officers have appealed for anyone with information about the burglary to contact them at Newtownabbey Station on 0845 600 8000.
