Burglars who robbed elderly Cookstown women are ‘lowest form of life’

Cllr McNamee hit out at those responsible saying: “Two elderly ladies who are known to myself were conned into thinking they were speaking with members of Water Service, and as one of them men distracted them to the rear of the home, the other two individuals entered the home and ransacked it, stealing a sum of money and personal items.

Cllr McNamee continued: “This has been a traumatic experience for these two ladies and I call on anyone who as any information about this incident to report it to the police.

“Sadly, these types of incident have increased in recent months and years and I would urge everyone to be extra cautious and aware of bogus callers.”

Detective Inspector Hazel Reid said, “One man, purporting to be from the Water Service called at a house at around 2pm on Friday 19th September and distracted the occupant. Two other men entered the property and went upstairs and took personal items. They may have made off in the direction of Orritor Lane and we would like to hear from anyone who saw them.”

The first man is described as being 5’ 7” tall, clean shaven, with dirty fair hair aged around 28 or 30 years with a distinctive Southern accent and was wearing a dark coloured clothing.

The other two men are described as having short dark hair, 5’5” tall, thin build and in their 30s, one may have had a moustache.
