Burglary suspects jump in river but fail to escape from police

BURGLARY suspects jumped in to a river in a failed bid to escape from police in Cushendall, it has emerged.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “On Thursday 9th June Police investigating reports of suspicious activity in Cushendall arrested two males who made off from them across a river.

“The males were arrested on suspicion of burglary at the Spar Shop Cushendall. A car was located nearby containing a quantity of cigarettes and a cash register. Police wish to express their thanks to the local Cushendall community for their vigilance and assistance in this matter.”

In other police news in the Moyle area, the PSNI released the following information.

* On Monday 6th June Police arrested a male on the Coleraine Road, Ballycastle, for non-payment of warrants.

* Police are appealing for information following a burglary from a house on Ann Street. Ballycastle, during which a quantity of cigarettes and a mobile phone were taken. This occurred on Tuesday 7th June.

* On Tuesday 7th June a quantity of suspected drugs and other items were seized following a house search at Riverdale Lodge, Bushmills. Police enquiries are continuing.

* On Thursday 9th June a male was arrested by police on suspicion of possessing a Class B drug on Ann Street, Ballycastle. During follow up searches a further two males were arrested and a small quantity of suspected drugs and associated items were located by police.

* On Friday 10th June a burglary occurred at a house on the Gracehill Road, Armoy, during which a window was smashed and 4 TV’s were taken. Police are also appealing for information following the theft of a Green Tippytoes push chair from Stroanshesk Park, Ballycastle, and the theft of a Macrolon sheet from Holy Trinity Hall in the town.

* Police are appealing for information in relation to the theft of a silver Nissan Almera car from the Coleraine Road, Ballycastle, on Sunday June 12.
