Burning bush causes pensioner distress

AN elderly lady was left shaken after a large bush in her garden was set alight by arsonists.

The incident happened in Windsor Avenue shortly after 4pm on Monday.

The ‘MAIL’ arrived on the scene minutes before the fire service and lent a hand as a couple who were passing tried to put out the blaze using a garden hose. Unfortunately its power was insufficient to tame the burning bush.

The elderly lady who lives in the house was distressed to see part of her garden alight and a neighbour came to her aid to reassure her as the fire brigade put out the fire.

She was shaken by the incident and couldn’t understand why anyone would want to set fire to something in her garden.

The ‘MAIL’ was told youths had been spotted acting suspiciously in the area just before the bush went up in flames.
