Burst pipe costs in WELB was £140k

THE estimated cost of repairing damage to heating and water supplies caused by burst water pipes at schools in the Western Education and Library Board (WELB) over Christmas was £140k.

DUP MLA Jonathan Craig asked the Minister of Education Caitrona Ruane to outline the cost through an Assembly Question.

She advised the cost in WELB was 140,343 the lowest figure in Northern Ireland outside the North Eastern Education and Library Board (NEELB).

"The full extent of the costs involved will unfold over the coming weeks as the Education and Library Boards move to repair the damage."

The Minister added: "Voluntary Grammar Schools and Grant Maintained Integrated schools are responsible for maintenance in their respective schools; and have their own insurance arrangements in place.

"The Department is therefore unable to provide costs incurred by these sectors."
