Bus and rail stations scoop eco accolades

TRANSLINK employees in Larne have been rewarded as part of an annual TIDY Northern Ireland awards scheme.

The awards, designed to ensure that local bus and train facilities are clean, tidy and environmentally-friendly, saw both Larne Ulsterbus and NI Railways stations receive silver awards.

The TIDY NI assessment categories include: general cleanliness, litter awareness, graffiti awareness, exterior maintenance, waste management, Translink brand profile, facility enhancement measures, community involvement, energy management and environmental communication.

Across the two stations, the assessment category general cleanliness has remained constant for the last two years, while litter awareness and exterior maintenance have both improved.

Translink group environmental manager, Andy Bate said: “We are pleased with this year’s performance demonstrating our employees’ commitment to providing an attractive bus and rail network for both passengers and colleagues to enjoy.

“Attractive stations play a key role in encouraging more people to travel by bus and train and we look forward to continuing to work in partnership with TIDY Northern Ireland to ensure our facilities are maintained to the highest possible standards.”
