Bus attacked

TRANSLINK have said that they will offer up to a £1,000 reward to anyone who witnessed anyone throwing missiles at a bus at Bridge Street.

The bus was attacked last Friday, April 19.

Police have also appealed for witnesses to the attack on the Ulsterbus 238 service that was travelling from Newry to Belfast when it was hit by a missile at around 7.45pm.

The missile was thrown by a group of youths crossing Bridge Street and resulted in a window being broken. The driver continued to Dromore to wait for a replacement vehicle.

There were approximately 20 passengers on board the service at the time and no injuries were sustained.

The incident was reported to the PSNI.

A spokesperson for Translink said, “Translink operates a cash reward scheme offering up to £1,000 reward to any member of the public who witnesses an incident of vandalism, trespass or assault against Translink property or employees and is prepared to give evidence in court, resulting in a conviction. Anyone with information on such an incident may contact the PSNI on 0845 600 8000.”

A police spokesperson said, “A male was observed throwing something at the bus before making off with two other males towards Downshire Place.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information in relation to it to contact them on 0845 600 8000 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
