Bus overturned on the way to game

PLAYERS for St Peter's Gaelic Football Club got a nasty shock on their way to a match in May 1967.

The bus taking 40 club members to play Sarsfields left the Derrytrasna road, toppled 10 feet into a field and overturned.

No-one was seriously injured but one youth had to be treated for shock.

When the bus came to rest the passengers tried to break the windows to get out before eventually escaping through the roof. The bus was extensively damaged and the rest of the journey was made by car.

The players were on their way to play in the quarter final of the O’Hare Cup. After their ordeal they lost by 15 points to 12.
