Bus station set to be completed next month

The investment will provide ‘safe and comfortable’ facilities for passengers using the new facility at Townsend Street and Kenlis Street, close to the town centre.

Michelle McIlveen said: “This is a major investment and it will provide the Banbridge and wider local community with enhanced and convenient bus facilities.

“It will also support the growing demand on our public transport infrastructure. The nine month project is on schedule to be complete on time next month and acts as a tangible demonstration of my commitment to improve public transport for everyone across Northern Ireland.”

Banbridge, within easy reach of the Belfast Metropolitan Area and on the main Belfast to Dublin route, accounted for about 390,000 passenger journeys last year.

Clive Bradberry, Translink Infrastructure Executive said: “This new facility will help to make local bus services even more attractive by offering a more comfortable, enhanced travel experience for passengers travelling to and from the local area.

“It will also support and integrate with the wider local council development plans that have been on-going in Banbridge Town Centre to attract more visitors and support local businesses.

“Local Ulsterbus services play a crucial role in helping to deliver a better quality of life for all.

“More and more people are using Goldline coach services to Dublin and Belfast and we know this new facility will be welcomed.

“We would like to thank the Regional Development Minister and her Department for the essential funding to deliver this project.”

This scheme maximises the land available on the corner of Townsend Street and Kenlis Street in Banbridge and is expected to become operational this Spring.
