Bushmills student expelled from College after assault

Ian Frank Norman Trevor Parke (20), of Heronshaw, pleaded guilty to the September 15, 2009, assault on the male.

A prosecution lawyer said a report of an assault was received by police and CCTV footage was viewed and when arrested the defendant replied: “What is he getting done for hitting my ankle?”

The court heard CCTV showed the defendant standing on the injured party’s head whilst the victim was on the ground and Parke admitted his guilt during interview.

A defence solicitor said “words were exchanged” between the two individuals although his client accepted he threw the first punch.

The solicitor said there was a wrestle and he claimed the injury to the other male was caused by a fall to the ground.

He said the injuries were not serious and he said Parke was expelled from the college as a result of the incident.

He said there was no history between the two individuals and no further incidents and the solicitor said the incident arose from “a loss of temper”.

District Judge Richard Wilson told the court: “Stupid wasn’t it? At the time he was coming 20. You might think at that age you would have learnt. You were not just children any more and you got expelled.”

Parke was fined 150 and ordered to pay 100 compensation to the injured party.
