Business support boost for Cookstown

BUSINESSES in the Cookstown area will receive a boost through five new tailored support programmes, representing an investment of almost £1m.

Cookstown District Council’s new development programmes, designed to deliver a comprehensive package of support to 225 businesses throughout the Cookstown district over the next two years, was launched last Wednesday.

Funded by Cookstown District Council and Invest NI, these projects are part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland and are focused on assisting businesses to grow.

The event, attended by over 100 business representatives, was launched by the Enterprise Minister, Arlene Foster MLA, at the Burnavon last Wednesday (April 24).

The five new programmes represent a combined total investment of £929,450 and encompass a broad range of interventions, all of which are inclusive of one-to-one bespoke business support.

With assistance available to 225 businesses, this collection of programmes is the largest package of business support ever delivered by Cookstown District Council.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Foster said it’s crucial that everyone continues to work in partnership so that the private sector can be further strengthened.

And Cookstown District Council chairman Tony Quinn told the audience that the council believes it is essential that small and medium businesses receive targeted support to stimulate their growth potential, especially during difficult trading times.
