Busy season for local Soroptimists

SOROPTIMIST International of Coleraine has had an eventful season.

Activities included a wine and cheese party in the home of the President Hazel Siberry at the end of March. The rooms were full and the chat was lively.

In April, following a pleasant meal in the Lodge Hotel, the guest speaker Margaret Oliver described the hard but rewarding charity work she was instrumental in organising in Castlerock.

The month of May saw Coleraine members travelling to meet the Londonderry club for a meal and to receive an interesting report from Liz Wooley on her visit to Sierra Leone. Liz is the Northern Ireland ambassador for Project Sierra - A Family and A Future which is a four year worldwide project undertaken by Soroptimist International along with the charity Hope and Homes for Children.

In June ‘Fun, Fashion and Furbelows’ was the intriguing title of the demonstration given by Pamela Forrest to a packed audience of more than 200 members and guests in the Lodge Hotel.

1,300 was raised at the event for Project Sierra.

For the summer outing a bus filled with members and friends travelled down to Belfast for an eagerly anticipated visit to the newly restored Ulster Museum. Creature comforts were not forgotten on the return journey as dinner was booked at the Drumadoon Restaurant in Cloughmills.

The summer vacation may have proved a rest for members before gathering together again for the autumn meetings.
