Busy weekend ahead at Cathedral

THIS weekend is promising to be one of the busiest ever in the life of St Columb's Cathedral.

On Friday evening at 8pm in Christ Church the Cathedral Organist and Master of the Choristers, Ian Mills, will be accompanying on the organ the Altnagelvin Hospital Choir and Orchestra in their Spring Concert which will feature the opera, Dido and Aeneas, by Henry Purcell, as well as the Requiem in C Minor by Luigi Cherubini.

On Saturday morning the Sitting Ducks, the post-Confirmation group of young people in the Cathedral, are going to the Rainbow Rehoming Centre in Eglinton to help with the animals as part of the group's outreach programme, while on Saturday afternoon the Confirmation candidates are going on their Donegal outing.

Sunday's services begin with Holy Communion at 8.00 am followed by Sung Eucharist at 11.00 am when the Dean will be the Celebrant and Preacher. In the afternoon at 3.00 pm Dean Morton will be the preacher in Christ Church at A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life and Work of Florence Nightingale held under the auspices of The Florence Nightingale Trust.

The Cathedral Choir, under the direction of Ian Mills, will be singing Choral Evensong in the Parish Church at Macosquin at 6.30pm on Sunday to mark the end of a Festival of Flowers and Music being held in the Church there over this weekend.
