Busy weekend for Larne RNLI

Larne RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews had a busy evening on Sunday April 19 when both the all weather and inshore lifeboats were tasked to two separate incidents within minutes of each other.

The calls came in at around 8.25pm from Belfast coastguard and both lifeboats were launched. The inshore lifeboat went to assist a 20 foot rowing boat in trouble with two people onboard while the all-weather lifeboat was sent to search for missing persons.

The rowing boat was having difficulty reaching land in Ballygally when it was hit by strong tides. The all-weather lifeboat was sent to search Brown’s Bay after reports were received of two canoes washed ashore with nobody on them.

The lifeboat crews were stood down after receiving the news that the two missing canoeists and the two people on the rowing boat had all managed to make it to shore safely.

Larne RNLI crewmember Pamela Dorman said: “We would always advise people who see something at sea that worries them to raise the alarm. You never know when a life could depend on it.”
