Busy year for Laurelhill modern language students

IT has been a busy start to the new academic year for pupils studying Modern Languages at Laurelhill Community College.

To celebrate the European Day of Languages Year 8 pupils enjoyed “Le Big Break” with croissants and hot chocolate.

All Key Stage 3 pupils entered the annual European Day of Languages competition which allows them to reflect on the benefits of learning a foreign language and also find out more about the European Union. Mr McCully (Head of Pastoral Care) judged the competition and awarded prizes to the best three entries in Years 8, 9 and 10.

On Tuesday, October 16, Year 12 pupils who are studying GCSE Spanish attended the Opportunity Europe Free Fair and Exhibition. They listened to a European Commission Translator who told them about the exciting and diverse career opportunities which exist for people who can speak foreign languages.

They entered a team into the Euro Quiz, hosted by Cool FM’s Pete Snodden and showed an impressive knowledge of Europe. The event finished off with an excellent performance by Onatti Theatre Company of ‘En el Campamento’ a play in Spanish in which Laurelhill students were able to participate and represented the College admirably.
