Butler angling for tourism

UUP councillor, Robbie Butler has called on the Stormont Executive Ministers to work together to boost the region’s angling tourism.

Councillor Butler issued the challenge along with a call for the Executive to help the Council implement a plan to increase the number of overseas visitors coming to the region to avail of angling opportunities.

“Clearly for an activity for which Lagan Valley in particular and Northern Ireland in general was once the venue of choice for many anglers, any significant reduction in these numbers would come both as a shock and a clear indication that more needs to be done.

“Every other neighbouring jurisdiction has clear targets to increase angling activity and improve the tourist potential of the sport.

“But in Northern Ireland, that lack of a clear focus impacts greatly on those who make their living from angling tourism with a clear knock on effect on accommodation providers.

“I call upon the Executive Ministers to jointly initiate a clear strategy to improve the potential of our angling estate and the marketing of this important tourism product overseas,” said Councillor Butler.
