Buy a brick and invest in the future

ST Patrick's and St Brigid's Primary School in Ballycastle launched it's 'Buy a Brick' campaign at the school Christmas Bazaar in December 2009 to help raise funds for their new school which is on target to be completed in the Summer.

This unique fundraising venture which is being driven by the Parents Teacher Association (PTA), the PAT have managed to source the bricks locally and are working with local Sculptor Cahal Og Newcombe on engraving each individual brick sold.

Cahal Og is a former pupil of St Patrick’s & St Brigid’s and a Stroke University Ceramic Graduate. He is delighted to have been entrusted with this visionary project initiated by the PTA and the school. By sourcing the bricks and getting them engraved locally this has reduce the overheads and will make more funds for the school.

The first phase of the building programme was completed in 2009 and pupils and teachers are now well settled into the more modern facility. Phase 2 of the building programme is on schedule to be completed in the Summer 2010 and for the first time in the history of St Patrick’s and St Brigid’s all children and teachers will be under one room for the start of the new school term in September 2010.

A school spokesperson explained: “By buying a brick, will give you the chance to be a part of the future and you will help to purchase additional materials and equipment for the new school and secure a better future for the children and their children in generations to come. The bricks cost just 50 each.

“In return for your generous gift, your name (it could be your child or grandchild’s name or your company) will appear on a roll of honour displayed on the school website. When the new school is completed, the bricks will be used to build a permanent pathway or wall which will be a lasting testament to those who helped it achieve its goal.

“Your name will appear in an honoured position in the school alongside other parents, grandparents, students, staff and many others. Why not consider buying a brick for someone else as a unique and personal present?
