C-TRIC stratifiedmedicine centre gets top ranking

The Northern Ireland Centre for Stratified Medicine, which is based at the C-TRIC Centre in Londonderry, has achieved top ranking in the UK-wide Research Excellence Framework as part of Ulster University’s Biomedical Sciences Research Institute.

Mayor of Londonderry, Brenda Stevenson, said: “This is fantastic news for everyone involved at the Ulster University’s Biomedical Sciences Research Institute and further evidence of our talented and skilled local workforce.

“We have every reason to be proud of this team and the excellent work they are doing in Life Sciences.”

She continued: “Not only is it an accolade for the city but a great show of confidence for our next generation of biomedical scientists and what opportunities it may present for future inward investment in the region.”

The Mayor added that since its launch in October last year, the NI Centre for Stratified Medicine at C-TRIC has gone from strength to strength in developing Londonderry as a leader in personalised medicine.

“I am delighted that this is another success story for Derry and we are successfully positioning our economy to compete strongly in the health and life sciences sector. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the work of Professor Tony Bjourson and the team at Ulster University Derry City Council’s partners (with WHSCT) in the C-TRIC facility on this achievement. Well done to everyone involved and I look forward to further success stories,” she concluded.
